Curly hair is undeniably beautiful, but managing frizz can make styling a challenge. If you've ever felt defeated by frizzy curls, you are not alone. With the right strategies, products, and a little patience, it's possible to banish the frizz and flaunt your gorgeous curls. In this article, I’m sharing my effective techniques for applying hair products, drying your curls, and choosing the best products to help you.
Product Application
So here's where it all starts... correctly applying products is essential for frizz-free curls. From my experience, many curl issues stem from improper application techniques.
Start with soaking wet hair. Divide your hair into sections and work the product through from roots to ends for even distribution. A good rule of thumb is to use a generous amount of gel; you're better to add too much than too little. simply scrunch at the end to encourage the curls.
Drying Techniques
When it comes to drying curls, I recommend using a blow dryer over air-drying. Blow-drying with a diffuser locks in your curls' shape before they can be disrupted by your clothing or anything else that might threaten your perfect curl clumps!
One key tip is to keep the diffuser stationary while drying each section. Move it only after the previous section has dried enough to hold its shape. This method effectively sets your curls, resulting in defined, bouncy styles.
Optimal Product Choice
Always a strong gel, have I found one on the high street yet?.. unfortunately not!
Your gel should be strong enough to give you a cast but lightweight enough for you to crunch out without feeling weighed down and oily. Why is having a cast so important? because this means you have hold, your curls are fully set in the position you've told them to be, you can refresh your curls day after day and finally because it helps with tangling or matting.
If you're using a cream - throw it out! Creams give absolutely nothing to your routine, I know its quite a strong statement but really the ingredients don't give you any hold, they weigh the hair down and block the hair from breathing.
I always opt for Organic Colour Systems Memory Gel because it's bloody perfect IMO! Its £14.50 and depending how much hair you have should last around 4-5 months. You can purchase this from my store here.
Embracing Frizz
Not all frizz is bad! Learning to live with frizz might be hard at times but its also key to volume and texture. For those with a tighter curl pattern try to embrace a little frizz and don't get too fixated in controlling every strand of hair.. you're never going to achieve it and it will make you feel miserable!
